SSFx - Phantom Gain Settings Breakdown

Published on

Basics

A slow and steady expert designed to extract small but repeatable moves from the market. It does not chase trends or attempt to predict momentum shifts. It works by taking advantage of short bursts of price expansion that appear many times each week. The default settings are tuned for EURUSD on the one hour chart and this is where it performs at its best. You can request additional set files for other timeframes or pairs from the website or by sending a direct message on the MQL5 Marketplace.

Phantom Gain uses a tight entry model with controlled position growth through a recovery system. It focuses on closing baskets at modest profit levels rather than aiming for wide targets. This produces a slow but persistent curve when used with the intended settings.

You have full control over risk, exposure, and the style of recovery. Below is a simple breakdown of the inputs and how they affect performance.

Settings

Position Sizing

Position Sizing Mode

This setting controls how the expert calculates the lot size. You can choose fixed lots, a percentage based model, or a balance divisor. Percentage sizing and balance divisor options allow the EA to scale as the account grows. Fixed lots produce the cleanest and most predictable result.

  • Fixed Lot Size
Used only when fixed sizing is active. Affects raw profit per basket.
  • Percentage Risk
Defines the percentage of the account to turn into exposure. A larger value produces faster growth but with more drawdown.
  • Balance Divisor
An alternative scaling method. The account balance is divided by this number to determine lot size. Large divisors produce small and conservative positions. The formula used is:

Account Balance / (Balance Divisor Value) = Trade Lots (Rounded Up to Symbol Minimum if need be)

Trade Filters

Start and End Time

Controls the hours in which the expert is allowed to open new signals. Useful for avoiding low volume sessions or periods you prefer not to trade.

Max Buckets

Limits the number of active signals on each side. A value of one keeps the expert focused and avoids overlapping positions.

Allowed Directions

You can restrict the expert to long positions, short positions, or both. This can be helpful if you want to align the EA with a larger market bias.

Grid Settings

These options shape how the recovery system behaves when a position moves against the initial entry.

Max Recovery Trades

Defines how many recovery trades may be added. Higher values allow deeper recovery but with more exposure.

Grid Step (in Points)

The distance between recovery entries. Larger values reduce activity and keep the basket more spread out.

Grid Step Factor

Expands the spacing of later entries. Useful when you want wide and controlled recovery during volatile conditions. The formula used for this is

Next Price = last grid price + (Grid Step * pow(InpGridStepFactor, Step No.))

Recovery Multiplier

Controls how position size grows with each additional trade. Higher multipliers speed up recovery but raise risk.

Take Profit

Take Profit Ticks

Defines the profit target for closing the basket. The default number is tuned for EURUSD one hour.

Account for Costs

If enabled, the expert automatically adds the swap difference and trading costs to the target to ensure the basket closes net positive.

Risk Management

Risk Management Option

Select between grid based recovery, a clean stop loss model, or a simple hold until target approach. Each mode produces a different equity profile.

Note
When stop loss mode is used, the Grid Step is used as the Stop Loss. As such, your trade would be closed when this number of points is hit. Additionaly, since the Expert uses virtual stops, you will not see the stop loss on the trading history.

Max Bucket Loss Percent

Closes the entire basket when the unrealized loss reaches this percent of the account. Useful for strict risk control.

Use Money Risk and Max Loss Amount

Instead of a percent based stop, you can define a hard monetary limit. Good for traders who think in absolute numbers.

Misc Settings

Magic Number

Keeps this expert separate from others. You can change this if you run multiple instances.

Comment

A label for all trades placed by the EA.

Final Notes

The default configuration is verified to work effectively on EURUSD hourly timeframe. This is where Phantom Gain shows its original design intent: modest entries, small but reliable exits, controlled recovery, and a stable equity path.

As more optimizations for other symbols and timeframes are completed, set files will be published on the website. You can also request them directly through our support email support@smallstepfx.com.
